Haiti was the first nation to officially recognize Greek independence from the Ottoman Empire on January 15, 1822
Haitian Creole
 

Beginning Haitian Creole I
Introduction to conversational skills and grammar essentials in the language. This course is designed for students who have no background in the language and wish to learn the language at an academic level, obtaining knowledge of the linguistic aspects of the language as well as skills needed to communicate in Haitian-Creole. The goal of the course is the simultaneous progression of four skills (speaking, listening, writing, and reading).



Intermediate Haitian Creole II
Concentrates on conversation and readings and introduces Haitian culture through music and film.

Topics in Haitian Language and Culture III
Variable topics in Haitian language, culture, and society.

Other Courses:

​Haitian Culture and Society IV

Addresses central aspects of history, politics, environment, and development, including attention to gender relations, medicine, education, work, race, and class. No knowledge of Haitian Creole is required.


An introduction to Haitian Cuisine
Students learn  to prepare authentic Haitian dishes. 

The Haitian Revolution (1791–1804)
Detailed analysis of the revolt against French colonial rule, abolition of slavery, and the creation of the first independent Black republic, often featuring key figures like Toussaint Louverture and Jean-Jacques Dessalines
